RIOC Announces Opening of New Park, Commons East

Roosevelt Island, NY (November 20, 2025) – The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), state and city officials, and leaders from Hudson and Related Companies cut the ribbon on Commons East, Roosevelt Island’s newest park nestled between 460 and 430 Main Street on the island’s east side. The new park includes a dog run, replacing the temporary run currently located in Firefighters Field, swings, picnic areas, and beautifully landscaped green spaces, all open to the general public.

GOVERNOR HOCHUL AND MAYOR ADAMS ANNOUNCE LAUNCH OF PLANNING EFFORT FOR FUTURE OF ROOSEVELT ISLAND

Roosevelt Island - Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams today announced a new conceptual agreement to extend the Roosevelt Island Master Lease and a separate agreement to begin a joint planning effort oriented around future development on the island, marking an important step toward ensuring the Island’s long-term stability and future growth. This initial extension will provide greater financial certainty for homeowners and residents, helping them access additional financing and maintain stable housing values. Additionally, the State, City, and Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) will launch a planning and community engagement process to identify opportunities for potential housing; new infrastructure and amenities to serve the island; and other community priorities. The outcomes of this planning and engagement work will be incorporated into a longer-term extension to the master lease in the years to come, as well as other amendments to the lease to streamline State, City, and RIOC operations on the island.

Climate Week Kicks-Off With 1-Year Anniversary Celebration of "Manhattan Healing Forest"

In an effort to celebrate the growth of the 2024 milestone planting of New York’s first pocket forest, an achievable solution to restoring green spaces within cities, three organizations — iDig2Learn, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation and the Lenape Center — collaborated to host a New York City birthday celebration of the SUGi-funded Miyawaki Method teeny forest on Roosevelt Island. The forest, planted in April of 2024, was the first "pocket forest" of its kind planted in New York City and has seen exponential growth in just 17 months.

RIOC Expands Rush Hour Red Bus Service to NYC HEALTH + HOSPITALS/COLER

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) and NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler announce a new pilot program that will extend free Red Bus service on Roosevelt Island directly to the front entrance of the skilled nursing & rehabilitation center located at 900 Main Street, during morning and afternoon rush hours, beginning Monday, August 18. As part of the pilot, Coler will serve as the northernmost stop on the island from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays. The initiative aims to improve public transportation access for Coler residents, staff, and visitors.

Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation Announces Selection of B.J. Jones as President & CEO

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) today announced B.J. Jones has been selected by the RIOC Board of Directors to serve as the next President and Chief Executive Officer of the corporation. Jones will be formally appointed by the RIOC Board in September.

RIOC Takes Steps to Enhance Seawall Safety Around Roosevelt Island

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) has taken steps to improve the safety of island residents and visitors by installing life ring stations at 11 strategic locations around the Roosevelt Island coastline. Each station includes a mounted cabinet with a throwable life ring that can be quickly accessed if someone enters the East River and needs immediate help.
