If you need to report a crime or request assistance, contact the Roosevelt Island Public Safety Department at 212-832-4545. Emergency call boxes are located throughout the island for direct communication with the NYPD. For life-threatening emergencies involving police, fire, or medical services, call 911.
Public Safety officers respond immediately to emergency calls and coordinate directly with 911 while dispatching officers to the scene. Because officers are already on the island, they often arrive first and address situations ranging from verbal disputes to physical altercations.
All officers are trained to recognize and respond to domestic disputes and violent incidents. When a crime has occurred, PSD files reports with the NYPD for further action as appropriate.
Public Safety frequently assists elderly and disabled residents experiencing medical emergencies, including falls or sudden health issues. Officers provide immediate assistance and help connect individuals with appropriate services when needed.
Residents may voluntarily post medical information inside their apartment doors to assist responding officers. PSD also maintains a confidential medical emergency roster for senior and disabled residents, developed in coordination with Roosevelt Island housing management, to support faster and more informed emergency response.
